Dearly beloved advocates of Dikir Barat,
8 November 2009 marks the 365th day I fell in love with Dikir Barat.
Where my first year of observation revolved around wonder and awe, the turning of time had me capturing a myriad of beautiful moments from the teams that participated in Piala Dikir Seni last Sunday. I found myself experiencing various emotions, ranging from a bit of melancholy as some gave an adieu performance to ecstasy as winners were crowned accordingly.It suddenly feels like I have been around for longer than a year.
Contrary to my explanatory first entry some 3 months ago, I hope my photo submissions walk the talk this time round.
In the last year, I have been blessed with the privilege of gaining insights from comrades of Dikir Barat, be it from the Durbar family or members from other groups alike. I am honoured and humbled that many have been forthcoming in sharing their knowledge and experiences, something so close to their hearts and minds which I could not have possibly obtained just from reading texts. The insights help me to capture moments with more conviction. Just like how the activists feel the energy in delivering, I feel the grit in wanting to share the beauty to as many as can be.
Advocates, thank you for everything so far. I certainly hope the discourses and performances continue to enlighten yours truly, ever ignorant yet ever wanting to embrace, learn and share. I look forward for you to continue to share, learn and embrace this literary fare.
